CAMI-Historical-MuseumGrosse-IleCome and discover a place where time seems to stand still. The little Red School House is nestled in the small village of Old Harry, within the Municipality of Grosse Ile, situated approximately 52 kilometers away from the bustling main island of Cap-aux Meules.  The Little Red School House is a reminder of simpler times when children gathered into a one-room school house, to learn their daily lessons. The school was built in 1922, by Arthur Goodwin and Douglas Clarke, and has, today, been identified as a historical site by the Municipality of Grosse-Ile.

In 1989, CAMI (The Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders), understanding the importance of preserving their heritage, began transforming the building into a mini-museum, while preserving the building’s schoolhouse characteristics.  At the Little Red Schoolhouse, one can visualize the old classroom with the aid of the original hardwood floor, a chalkboard, and old school desks.

Over the years, the museum’s collection has grown and evolved to include old photographs, stories, and artifacts that help depict a time gone by. These items will take you back in time and give you an inside view of the English speaking community, past and present, and their way life.
